Jane Vance

Jance Vance was born in Armagh County, Ireland on October 5, 1812. She married James Clark in 1833 in Ireland, where they had their first two children - Hannah and Oliver. However, Oliver was baptised in Valleyfield, Quebec when he was nine months old, so they migrated to Canada between May 5, 1839 and February 24, 1840.

Between 1861 and 1871 James and Jane moved from Hinchenbrook, Quebec to South Pontiac, Quebec.

After the 1871 census, the rest of the family moved, most of them to Cheboygan, Michigan, or Parry Sound, Ontario. Jane and Samuel visited Thomas and his family in Minnesota, appearing on the 1875 Minnesota census.

Jane lived in Mullet Lake prior to 1891 when she travelled with her son-in-law William McRoberts to Parry Sound to visit family there. In August 1892, she travelled back to Michigan on her own and settled in Cheboygan. In 1897 she moved in with her daughter Maggie Ruddock in Charlevoix. She died on April 17, 1899 at the age of 86 and is buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery in East Jordan.
