Maggie Clark

Maggie was the last of the Clark children to die, outliving her sister Elizabeth by seven and a half years. Maggie and her twin sister Tillie were born May 24, 1851 in Quebec. Canada. They grew up in Hinchenbrook and later in South Pontiac, Quebec. In 1871, the twins were on the census twice - at home with their families, and also where they worked as 'servants' for a medical doctor.

With the next two years, she had joined much of her family in Cheboygan, Michigan. On May 26, 1873 she married Luke Ruddock in Cheboygan. Their marriage lasted just less than nine years. When Luke died from an illness in 1882, he left her with four children, the oldest having just turned eight years of age.

Luke was a head sawyer at the Nelson and Strohn mill, and appointed as the foreman of the Cheboygan Lumber Company extensive mill shortly before he died. Luke was so esteemed in the community, that the local G.A.R. Post was named after him. The local masons placed a "beautiful Italian marble monument" over his grave.

Maggie worked as a post mistress at Mullet Lake for awhile, but soon after moved her family to East Jordan to be near her twin sister. In the early 20th century she lived with her daughter Laura and family on Division Street in East Jordan. Later she spent her winters with her daughter May's house in Ludington, while summers were spent in East Jordan with Laura and her family.

Maggie died at the age of 92, on Thursday, November 25, 1943, 61 years after her husband had died. She was survived by two daughters, a son, two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery in East Jordan.
