Samuel Clark

Samuel Clark was the youngest of the ten children that James and Jane had (see discussion onMary Clark). There seems to be a lack of information on him.

He was born in Quebec around the year 1858. In 1870, he was staying with his brother Oliver in Michigan. In 1875 Samuel and his mother were in Minnesota visiting Thomas and his family. In 1880, Samuel is again staying with Oliver and his family in Cheboygan.

In 1885, Samuel froze his ears and toes while driving a team across the straits near St. Ignace. He had his toes amputated that week. The community kindly put on a benefit dance to help him. Later that year he moved to the Soo, but came back to visit at Christmas time.

One researcher suggested he died in 1885, but that is unlikely, because his mother's obituary in 1899 states that six daughters and four sons all survived her.
