Gladys was born October 11, 1890 in Michigan to Hiram and Sarah Seger.

On February 17, 1914 she married Herbert Samuel Derry who was also from Cheboygan. They moved to Detroit where Gladys worked as a sales lady at a bakery. She died on October 18, 1937 a week after her 47th birthday. Herbert survived her until 1946.
