Mabel Elizabeth Smith was the last child born to George and Gertrude Smith. She was born on October 13, 1914 and grew up in Foley Township, near Parry Sound, Ontario.

Mabel married Wilford Shirley and had one daughter - Nancy.

Wilford was only 33 when he died on February 5, 1942. Mabel lived for another 67 years and died at the age of 95 on December 4, 2009 in Toronto. The are both buried in Park Lawn Cemetery.

SHIRLEY, Mabel E. - Peacefully at The Briton House on Friday, December 4, 2009 in her 96th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband G. Wilford Shirley. Survived by her loving daughter Nancy J. Smith (John) of Parry Sound and granddaughters Jacyn Budgell (Bill) of Wasaga Beach and Samantha J. Smith. Fondly remembered by her great- granddaughter Sheelagh Trache and many nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by all those who knew her and cherished her warm and wonderful spirit. Profound thanks to the superlative staff at The Briton House. A funeral service will be held at the MORLEY BEDFORD FUNERAL HOME, 159 Eglinton Ave. W. (2 stop lights west of Yonge St.) on Tuesday, December 8th at 11:30 a.m. Visitation 1 hour prior. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
