Dewey George Pratt was born to Leonard and Dorothy Pratt on April 19, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. On April 22, 1946 just after he turned 18, he enlisted for the Hawaiian Department of the military as a private in the infantry.

On March 27, 1950, Dewey married 18 year old Detroit native Nancy Smith in Steuben, Indiana. They had a son which they named Evan.

Dewey married a widow, Patricia Lane, on December 7, 1980 in Clark, Nevada. On March 4, 2009, at the age of 80, Dewey died in Vero Beach, Florida where he had lived for 27 years. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the local Elks Lodge, General Motors Retirement Coast Club, the American Legion, Disabled Veterans Association, and the local Yacht club. He was survived by his wife, son, and two grandchildren. Patricia died on November 30, 2011.
