Bruce was born on September 11, 1956 to Edwin Elmer Cook and Ida Beach. He married Kim Shampine in 1984. Bruce died on September 9, 2017 in Cheboygan. No children were listed on the obituary.

He was for many years a good friend and helper to his aunt Jennie Cook Johnson. Not long before she died she changed the terms of her Will, which Bruce later contested in court.

Bruce E. Cook, of Cheboygan, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at the age of 60. He was born on Sept. 11, 1956 in Cheboygan. Bruce married Kim Shampine on Jan. 27, 1984, both lifelong residents of Cheboygan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ida (Beach) Cook. Bruce is survived by his wife, Kim; his brother, Gary (Houghton Lake); his sister, Sylvia McLain (Republic, Wash.) and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce requested cremation and there will be a memorial and luncheon for family and friends to celebrate Bruce's life on Sunday, Sept. 24 at Pier 33 Restaurant from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be directed to the Cheboygan Hospice House in memory of Bruce.
