John Linton


John was the second born son of Charles Linton and Ethel Wimhurst, though his older brother died soon after birth. John was raised on a family farm east of Englehart in Northern Ontario.

Born in World War 1, he married during World War 2 to Uarda MacPherson. They had 7 children, all of which are still alive as of 2019.

John farmed the same property that his grandparents had settled as immigrants to Canada. After Uarda died, he married his daughter-in-law's mother, Ida Badger, and move into Englehart. He died in 2012, at the age of 94 and is buried in the Ingram Township cemetery next to Uarda.


Life Story for John Linton

John Linton was received by his Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, on Thursday, November 15, 2012 in his 95th year.

John was born June 27, 1918 to Charles and Ethel Linton, both predeceased. John had two brothers, Albert (an infant) and Thomas, both predeceased. John was married to Uarda MacPherson for 47 years and together they nurtured seven children. After Uarda went to be with her Lord, John married Ida (Badger) West. They celebrated 20 years of marriage on November 4, 2012.

John will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Ida, his children: Albert (Mary-Anne), Randall, Ralph (Jessica), Detlor (Gail), Florence (Rob) Soderberg, Marion and David, his step-children: Shirley Rock, Nancy (Jim) Stood, Jim (Norma) West, Fred (June) West, Jean (Wallace) Matheson, Mary-Anne (Albert) Linton, and Bob (Sharon) West. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren and also left to mourn their grandfather. Also survived by two sister-in-laws, Queenie Linton and Betty Pender. A step-son Bill West predeceased John.

The family of the late Mr. John Linton will receive family & friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, Englehart, Monday, November 19, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Englehart Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 20, at 10:30 am. Mr. Rudy Kafmann officiating. Interment to follow at the Ingram Cemetery. In memory contributions to Christian Blind Mission International or the Gideon's will be greatfully appreciated.
