Albert Edward Clark


Albert Edward Clark was the last child born to Thomas and Jane Clark. He was born on June 27, 1883 and grew up in Rochester, Minnesota. His mother died when he was 10 years old. As his father left town a few years later, he lived with is older sister Jennie and worked for the newspaper and later the telephone company that his brother-in-law started.

On June 3, 1909, Albert married Sarah Hildebrandt in Rice County, Minnesota.

Sarah died in 1954. Albert outlived her by 4 years, dying at the age of 75 on September 15, 1958 in Rochester, Minnesota. They are buried in Kenyon Cemetery.

Albert the Community Activist:

In 1903 Albert was among the group that started up a new militia in Kenyon. He was elected second corporal of the unit.

In 1904, Albert was elected second lieutenant of the newly created Kenyon Rough Rider Club.

The Kenyon Odd Fellows were formed in 1920. Albert Clark was elected Financial Scribe. In 1921, Albert was elected the Vice Grand, while his wife was elected Noble Grand of the Rebekahs.

Albert the Electrician:

In the early years of the century, Albert was in charge of the line work for the telephone exchange that his brother-in-law, Dr. Gates had started.

After working with telephone lines, he began working with electricity outfitting much of the houses in the area with electric lights and other fixtures, including the city halls of both Northfield and Faribault.

Albert the Firefighter:

Albert attended the state Fireman's convention in Mankato in 1908 .

The Kenyon Fireman's relief association elected Albert as president for the year 1914. The next year he was elected Foreman of Hose Co. No. 2 at the annual meeting of the Kenyon Volunteer Fire department.

In 1921 Albert attended the Minnesota state Firefighter's Convention in International Falls.
