Stuart James Sewell


Stuart was the son of Gordon and Martha Sewell. He was born December 1926 in Chicago, Illinois.

Stuart married Dorothy Stoops August 9, 1952 after serving in Italy during World War 2. He had a B.A. and an M.A. and was a teacher for many years at all levels of the education spectrum including as chair of humanities at Waubonsee Community College.

Stuart and Dorothy had three children - Kristin, Clay, and Meredith.

In 1968, Stuart was chosen as a judge for the "October Palette - Best of 1968" which was the blue ribbon winners from the Chicagoland art fairs all brought together for a special showing. He was a judge again in 1969.

Dorothy preceded Stuart in death. Stuart died on April 10, 2010 in Aurora, Illinois.

Stuart James Sewell Stuart James Sewell, 83, of Aurora passed away April 25, 2010, at his home. He was born December 1926 in Chicago, the son of the Gordon Raymond and Martha Marion (Smith) Sewell. He was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Stoops August 1952. He was a Veteran of the Second World War serving in Italy. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters of Arts degree from Millikin University and a master of fine arts degree from Northern Illinois University. He taught school in Amboy, Illinois, and in Aurora at Bardwell Elementary School, East Aurora High School, Aurora College and Waubonsee Community College where he served as chairman of humanities. He is survived by his three children, Kristin (Rodger) Sager of Fishers, Indiana, Clay (Denise) Sewell of Aurora, and Meredith (Tim) Sewell of Iowa City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Trevor Rodger Sager and Kelsey Elizabeth Sager of Fishers, Indiana, Kaolin Dorothy Sewell, Victoria Mavis Sewell and Ian Stuart Sewell of Aurora, and Melanie Raine Holman and Nora Ellen Holman of Iowa City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Armine (Stoops) Sewell and his parents Gordon Raymond and Martha Marion Sewell. At Stuart's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements were handled by The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl. Aurora. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Sewell's name may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Fox Valley. I was so sad to read about Mr. Sewell. He was my art teacher at East High. I thought he was the greatest!My deepest sympathy to his family.I will always remember him as one of my favorite teachers.
