Isabella was born in 1803 in Scotland.  She married William Hay on January 30, 1831 in Bellie, Banffshire, Scotland.  They had eight children with the last one being born in Canada.

Isabella died on July 27, 1855 at the age of 52 in Fergus, Ontario. She is buried with William in Saint Andrews Auld Presbyterian Kirkyard.
