Barbara was born May 20, 1930 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to John and Margaret Bishop. She married James Hendricks and had two children. She also married Casimir Opyt who preceded her in death.

Barbara died at the age of 75 on Christmas Day 2005 in Wheatfield, Indiana and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleums in Calumet City, Illinois.

Barbara J. Opyt Merrillville Barbara J. Opyt, age 75, of Merrillville, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2005. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Lemonds of Flint, MI; son, John (Rachel) Hendricks of WV; three step-daughters: Laura (Larry) Mazurkiewicz of Crown Point, Linda (John) Kirley of Wheatfield, IN and Lana (Kurt) Carroll of San Diego, CA; fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Casimir Opyt. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. from the Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home (corner of Main and Kennedy Avenue) Schererville/Highland, for 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Michael's Church in Schererville with Rev. Brian Chadwick, officiating. At rest Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home. Prayer service 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Barbara was a member of St. Michael's Church in Schererville. Memorials are preferred to the Mt. Carmelite Family Support Program.
