Samuel Alan McRoberts was the younger of two sons born to John and Isabella McRoberts. He was born in 1914 in Foley Township near Parry Sound, Ontario.

Samuel married a teacher by the name of Ethel Horne and had one son - John A. McRoberts.

Samuel died in 1990. Ethel died in 2014 in Parry Sound at the age of 100. Their son John survived them.
