John Russell Hedges was born on the last day of Janary 1944 to John and Jennie Hedges in Faribault, Minnesota. He was raised in Faribault, attending school there until he graduated in 1961.

After graduating from university, he returned to Faribault and worked in the Minnesota State Employment Office.

He was a gentle, yet private person, who preferred his home to outdoor activities. He was an avid reader, and guitar player.   - from obituary

 John died on April 18, 2019 in Faribault at the age of 75. He was buried at the Maple Lawn Cemetery.

John R. Hedges, age 75 of Faribault, MN passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault, with Fr. Henry Doyle officiating.

Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.

John Russell, the son of John D. and Jennie A. (Gates) Hedges, was born on January 31, 1944 in Faribault. He attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1961. John graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1965, then came back to Faribault where he worked at the Minnesota State Employment Office for many years. He was a gentle, yet private person, who preferred his home to outdoor activities. He was an avid reader, and guitar player. John also enjoyed a friendly cup of coffee daily with friends and staff at Bernie’s.

He is survived locally by his cousins, Mary Danielson-Gates and Richard R. Gates, both of Kenyon, MN and Ann Gates Sienna of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
