James Patterson was born in either 1811 or 1817 depending on the sources.  He and his wife Elizabeth immigrated to Canada somewhere between 1844 and 1847 along with their first four children.  They had five more children in Canada where they settled in South Sherbrooke township near Perth, Ontario.

James and Elizabeth both died after 1891.
