Raymond Arndt - obituary

Raymond John Arndt, 60, of Beaverton and long-time Midland area resident, died early Sunday morning, Sept. 17, 2006, at his home after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on July 25, 1946, in Midland, son of the late John Arndt Jr. and Jane Clark (Bell) Arndt. He attended McGill School and Northeast Intermediate, graduating from Midland High School in 1964. In his early years, Ray was an avid rollerskater, skating at the Midland Roll Arena. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and served for 21 years, retiring with the rank of E-8 master sergeant. He had worked as a manager in security in Midland at the Co-Generation Venture in Midland. Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing, and will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor, and for helping others. Ray married the former Connie Tadlock on July 7, 2001, in Texas.

Surviving besides his wife Connie, is his mother, Jane Arndt of Midland; one sister, Calleen (Greg) Hartnagle of Midland; one stepson, Robert "Sam" (Isabella) Reid of Maryland; one step-granddaughter, Alliyah Reid; two nieces, Amanda Hartnagle and Deana Crane; and one nephew, Eric Hartnagle. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by one brother, Dennis Arndt in 1989.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St.

Ray's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Full military honors will be presented by the Sanford American Legion and the Department of The U.S. Army.
