Royal 'Roy' Floyd Ruddock was born March 19, 1879 to Luke and Maggie Ruddock. He was 3 years old when his father died. His mother moved the family to East Jordan where he grew up. Roy joined the military for the Spanish American war in 1898.

In 1900 Roy was a restaurant clerk in Petoskey, Michigan. On May 25, 1905 Roy married Edith Fortune. They had one daughter in 1907. When giving birth to a second child both Edith and the child died in 1909 in Boyne City, Michigan.

Since Roy's sister May was a widow, she moved in to help tend house and look after Margaret. Roy moved to Flint, Michigan and began working at the Buick plant, where he worked for the next 30 years until his death.

On August 6th, 1936, at the age of 57, Roy married for the second time. This time to Hazel (Cummings) Harrington, widow of his cousin Russell Harrington who died July 3, 1929. They had no children together. Roy died just over 6 years later on November 9, 1942 in Flint. He is buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery in East Jordan. Hazel died in 1984 at the age of 91.
