Edward "Darkie" Badger was born May 14, 1891 to Alfred and Isabella Badger in Foley Township near Parry Sound, Ontario.

On June 20, 1918, he married Etta McGown. They had six children over the next 18 years.

"Darkie" got his nickname because of his acting ability. In one play he acted the part of a black person and did such a marvelous job that the name stuck for the rest of his life.

Edward was a farmer, but also did a lot of construction, carpentry, logging and other things over his lifetime.

He died on August 12, 1981 about five months after Etta died.
