John Charles Wimhurst jr.

John Charles Wimhurst is possibly the most travelled Wimhurst that I am tracking. He was born in London, England, moved to Canada in 1906, a year before the rest of his family moved. Oddly enough, he immigrated on the same boat, the SS Lake Erie, that his family immigrated on in 1907. He was listed as a mechanical engineer heading for New Liskeard, Ontario on the shipping documents.

In December 23, 1915, John left Vancouver on board the Makura, arriving in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 29th.  He reached Sydney, Australia on the 14th of January 1916.

In July 1917, John signed up with the Australian army to fight in the great war and was on a ship heading for England by November 21, 1917. He was living in Geelong West, Victoria, Australia at the time he enlisted. John saw service in Europe and was injured. While still in Britain, he married Ada Ingram on February 1, 1919. John returned to Australia on September 25, 1919. Ada departed Devonport on board the Mahana on September 26, 1919. They both travelled back to Australia where they settled and had a son Cyril.

In May of 1942, John was installed to the mastership of the Kyabram Masonic Lodge No. 225.

John and Ada travelled around the world to visit relatives including those in Canada. They arrived back in Australia on July 3, 1957.

John died October 16, 1969 in Tongala, Victoria, Australia. Ada died in June 1, 1971. They are both buried in Kyabram cemetery, Victoria.
